What to Expect

Ol Pejeta Conservancy is a 364sq km wildlife conservancy situated between the foothills of Mount Kenya and the Aberdares and its game-to-area ratio tops the Kenyan park and reserve league. The Ol Pejeta Conservancy in Kenya has over 10000 large mammals and it is the only park where the big 5 and chimpanzees can be seen.

It is also where the fastest growing population of rhino in Africa can be found. There are southern white rhino, about 80 endangered black rhino and in a special sanctuary there are two of the world’s last remaining northern white rhino.

You’ve met the Big 5, now meet the Samburu Special 5! Samburu National Reserve in northern Kenya is a great place for seasoned safari goers and returning safari lovers to:

  1. Spot gerenuk, besia oryx, Grevy’s zebra, reticulated giraffe and Somali ostrich – the Samburu Special 5
  2. Stay in accommodation that ranges from Bedouin-style tents to rock lodges at altitude
  3. Learn how the Samburu way of life differs to the Maasai
  4. Tick off at least 450 recorded bird species, including kori bustards, vulturine guinea fowl and secretary birds
  5. Walk with Samburu guides through a hilly landscape dotted with magnificent outcrops
  6. Drink in a spectacular night sky and unblemished Milky Way
  7. Ditch the 4×4 and saddle up a camel to explore the scrub-land
  8. Be charmed by the real-life tale of a bereaved lioness adopting and protecting an orphaned gazelle – read the full true story at the entrance to Samburu National Park

The Aberdares are the third highest range of mountains in Kenya, reaching a summit of just over 4000m. This massive range is well known for its thick salient forests, and their prolific game.

These high altitude forests are broken by moorlands and plains, and through the abundant tree cover there are sensational views of the Rift Valley and the peak of Mt Kenya.

The forest is a hidden world of wildlife. The thick vegetation provides perfect cover for countless species.

Very large herds of Elephant and Buffalo move almost silently through the undergrowth, while overhead noisome birds and colobus monkeys dominate the canopy.

The Masai Mara reserve will tickle your thrill spot with Kenya’s richest concentration of wildlife. The lush golden grassland plains are filled with plentiful zebras, lions and wild beasts, with a real-life alacrity of on-camera safari expeditions. This acacia land brings you goosebumps with the cheerful sight of the five giants, the elephants, rhinos, lions, leopards and the wild buffaloes. Feel the intriguing sense of nomadic life with captivating day-time activities and splendid overnight stays at camps or lodges on this trip to Masai Mara Safari.

The landscape has grassy plains and rolling hills, and is crossed by the Mara and Talek rivers. The area nearby is dotted with villages (enkangs) of Maasai people.

  • Rare Black and white rhinos and the last two remaining Northern White rhinos
  • Chimpanzees
  • The samburu special five
  • Rare forest bongo and forest hogs
  • Beautiful landscapes
  • Wildebeest migration

What can say, TANIUS organised the trip of a lifetime without any hitches and at a price we could not match elsewhere.

We booked flight only to Mombasa and were picked up from the airport and taken straight on Safari by Bedan in our own Safari bus.

We passed many buses with 6 or even 7 passengers and stuffed with luggage. East Tsavo, Amboseli (our favourite), Mount Kenya, Treetops (least favourite), Samburu, Lake Nakuru and The Mara then flying down to the beach for a few days- what a trip, but without Bedan we would have missed so much!

Again, a huge thanks to Peter and crew for organising it all…. even taking us back to the airport for our sad return.

We would recommend these professional people to everyone.

    Jambo Bedan!
We would like to say ‘Thank you very much’ for your excellent way of guiding and driving us during our 11 days safari (Tsavo East, Amboseli, Aberdares, Samburu, Lake Nakuru and the Masai Mara).

Your knowledge and explanation about the animals and birds was excellent as well. We will never forget the many times we said ‘stop’ to observe the Kenyan wildlife and the way you have driven the bus in very good positions. Just only after our ‘Hallelujah’ you continued the game drive which brought us to other exciting moments.

We also want to say ‘Thank you very much’ to the TANIUS organisation, who created on our request a perfect safari. The bookings, tented camps, lodges, food, flight back to Mombasa, etc was, again, excellent.

We will give our recommendations to everybody to book a safari by TANIUS Tours! It was a holiday we will never forget! Asante Sana.

    Dear Peter,
jambo,At last I find time to send you a (very short) note of thanks. We had a wonderful time on our travels, thanks in a large part to excellent organisation by yourselves.

I would slightly shorten the itinerary if I was to do it again, there were perhaps a few too many kilometres, but your choice of lodges was superb. We survived the balloon experience (the pilot’s first crash in 15 years) and various close encounters of the animal kind.

I would ask you especially to thank your driver/guide Bidan who was efficient, knowledgeable, very polite but friendly and with a good sense of humour (essential when travelling with us!).

I think we may have left him exhausted but he was smiling until the last. I would be happy to give a reference on your services if you should need in the future. We will certainly be returning to Kenya very soon. Thanks again.

Asante sana. Michael, Louise and family
