What to Expect

The slightly larger Tsavo East is generally flat, with dry plains across which the Galana River flows. Other features include the Yatta Plateau and Lugard Falls.

Tsavo East is the largest protected area in Kenya, a land of unparalleled biodiversity and naturally home to Africa’s “Big Five” – black rhino, Cape buffalo, elephant, leopard, and of course, lion.

But on your game drives here you can also come upon eland, gerenuk, impala and Masai giraffe. And the birds! Over 500 species like the black kite, lovebird and sacred ibis await your discovery.

Here, too, the land calls out to be explored. You can traverse the Yatta Plateau, at 300 kilometers, the world’s longest lava flow.

And it’s not all rugged plains that meet the eye – the Galana River flowing through the park creates a lush line of greenery cutting across the dusty Savannah. You’ll find pods of hippos, crocodile and waterbuck adding to the diversity in this unpredictable reserve.

Amboseli National Park is undisputedly one of the most scenic national parks in Kenya. It is not only home to the Big Five, but also a rich playfield of diverse wildlife and vegetation ranging from antelopes, monkeys, hyenas, giraffes, crocodiles, peacocks and ostriches. Its vast landscape offers scenic hills and swamps in the stretch of 8, 000 square kilometers of land cover.

From the sight of fifty million gallons of crystal clear water gushing out of from the under parched lava rock that is the Mzima Springs  to the Shetani  lava flows, Tsavo West is a beautiful, rugged wilderness. The savannah ecosystem comprises of open grasslands, scrublands, and Acacia woodlands, belts of riverine vegetation and rocky ridges including the Poacher’s Lookout where visitors can see the teeming herds in the plains below. Tsavo West offers some of the most magnificent game viewing in the world and attractions include elephant, rhino, Hippos, lions, cheetah, leopards, Buffalos, diverse plant and bird species including the threatened corncrake and near threatened Basra Reed Warbler.

  • Huge herds of Elephants covered in red dust from wallowing and dust bathing
  • Mudanda Rock – this rock towers above a natural dam which draws many Elephants to slake their thirst every day.
  • Lugards Falls – these falls occur on the Galana River, passing over some interestingly shaped rocks.
  • Mzima Springs
  • The Rhino Sanctuary
  • The towering Mt. Kilimanjaro

🙂 We have returned home safely to Scotland and thought we should let you know that we had a fantastic time on safari.

Bidan, our driver, was excellent. He was on time for pick up and took great care when driving us throughout the whole 2 days. The safari experience was exceptional, Bidan made sure we knew about all the animals and birds we saw and we enjoyed his company too.

We won’t hesitate to recommend your company to anyone who asks, and when we come back to Kenya we will be sure to use your company again.

    Kindest regards,

    Audrey & Alan Philp

We booked with TANIUS Safaris after recommendation from someone staying in our hotel.

From the initial phone call to book right through to the guys dropping us back at our hotel after the safari we couldn’t have asked for a better service!!

We booked the 4 day Buffalo Safari which took us to Tsavo East, Amboseli and Tsavo West. The lodges we stayed in were fantastic, Kilaguni Serena, Amboseli Serena and the Voi Safari.

The views were amazing and the service 100%. Bidan and Joseph were our guides and they did a fantastic job, spotting animals that we would never have seen and not once did they clock watch whilst on game drives. We saw all the Big 5 other than the Rhino plus lots of other animals and wildlife.

If anybody would like any information then please do not hesitate to contact me, I have no hesitation in recommending this company to anyone and thankful to the Heselwoods who did to me.

Do not go to Kenya and not go on safari – I’ve travelled all over the world and it will take a lot to beat this experience!!
